Gender Unboxed Arts Festival
It’s a multi arts cultural festival that aims at creating visibility and space for the marginalized genders and promote gender fluidity in art.
Gender Unboxed is a 3- day multi-arts festival where we feature artists from marginalized genders who help us curate and create content that promotes gender fluidity and further develop a bias-free, safe & inter-disciplinary collaborative art environment in the city.
The arts are a crucial mechanism whereby identities are formed and performed. They are an important vehicle whereby gender stereotyping can both be reinforced, and disrupted, with arts projects exploring different ways of being a man or a woman, or indeed disrupting the notion that one must be either.
With this belief, a collective of women & non-binary individuals from Mumbai, India who come from diverse backgrounds and fields of storytelling & art came together with a common aim of wanting to build and nurture a space for representation of marginalized genders in through different art forms. Our programming presents and brings to light characters, stories and performances from the LGBTQIA++ communities - within independent India, in hopes, that it will help educate and create awareness in the society about love, empathy, acceptance and understanding, especially when it comes to queer, transgender, non-binary & gender-non conforming identities.
So, Gender Unboxed came into existence.
